電影中山謬爾殺人之前總是要朗誦一段聖經，據他所說是《聖經》以西結書第25章17節，可是饒舌的他總是將聖經中的上邊幾句話發揮成了這樣：「正義的人的道路給邪惡的人自私和暴行的不公平所包圍，以慈善和好意為名的人有福了，他帶領弱者走出黑暗的山谷，他是兄弟的監護人，以及是迷途孩子的尋找人。我向他們大施報應，發怒斥責他們，他們企圖毒害和消滅我的兄弟，我報復他們的時候，他們就知道我是耶和華。」幾乎所以有關這部電影的評論都不放過這段話，以為是解開電影的關鍵密鑰所在。其實後來山謬爾自己都說了，這段話不過是他信口胡說的。原來類似於《紅樓夢》中的「假語村言」！山謬爾之所以說那段話，殺人似乎成為了一種儀式，而他就是那個儀式的施行者。可是到最後，他自己也說不清自己是什麼角色，究竟是邪惡呢還是正義，只是有一點可以明白，槍口下的人都是弱者。既然森然無情的槍口可以對准任何人，那麼誰都有可能成為弱者。所以那段話，山謬爾從斬釘截鐵到不確定，正是他自己的一個社會角色反思的心路歷程。也正是基督教所謂自我「救贖」。說到「弱者」二字，現在終於有些明白為何起初將「pulp：軟綿、柔軟無力之物」的解釋羅列出來在片頭了Jules: There's a passage I got memorized.
